John,

We wanted to make sure you saw Attorney General Ellison issued an opinion ruling lunch shaming as illegal under Minnesota law.

Attorney general: Lunch shaming isn't legal under Minnesota law - Alex Chhith, Star Tribune

"’Minnesota law is clear: Students whose families are struggling to afford their lives cannot be denied a regular school lunch or offered a substandard alternate meal in place of a regular lunch,’ Ellison said...

“‘That practice is another form of 'lunch shaming' that is an affront to the dignity of those students and is not allowed under the law.’"

This ruling is an important step forward in ending the demeaning practice of differential treatment for students with unpaid lunch balances. Every child deserves to have access to free meals at school.

Thank you for standing with us.
