Last month marked the successful launch of the 2022 Canada Animal Welfare Scorecard. This year's report ranks 55 major food companies on their animal welfare performance.

We reached audiences across Canada with media coverage by the Globe and Mail, Corporate Knights, Food in Canada, Planet Friendly News, and Sentient Media.

Advocates like you who shared the report and took action are part of the important effort to hold companies accountable to their promises to ban cruel practices from their supply chains. 

And the country's biggest players in the food industry are noticing.

Two of Canada's largest chicken producers, Maple Leaf Foods and Olymel; grocery retailer Metro; and Panago Pizza all reported progress toward transitioning to a higher-welfare processing standard for chickens raised for meat for the first time this year.

Recipe Unlimited, Canada's largest full-service restaurant chain and owner of popular brands Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, and The Keg, started reporting progress toward eliminating cruel gestation crates from its supply chain.

These achievements are just some of the progress we've made through our continued work to shine a light on cruel practices in Canada's food system.
