MIDTERM ELECTIONS

2022 Midterm Election Results

The 2022 midterm general election took place on November 8. See the results here. Choose your state then use the drop-down menu to filter through the offices that were on the ballot. See the results of the statewide ballot measures that were voted on here by filtering for your state.

Georgia Runoff Election

Early voting has begun for Georgia's runoff election on Tuesday, December 6. Learn more about the race between Sentator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker for the open seat in the U.S. Senate here.

STATEMENTS

International Relations

This month, President Biden had meetings with several global leaders while attending summits in Egypt, Cambodia, and Indonesia. While at the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change, Biden met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt; read their remarks before the meeting here and Biden's remarks at the conference here. Biden attended the annual U.S.-ASEAN Summit (read his remarks here) where he met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan and President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea; read their remarks before the meeting here. At the G20 summit, Biden met with President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China; read their remarks before the meeting here.

Mass Shootings

Several mass shootings received national coverage in November. On November 13, a University of Virginia student killed three of the school's football team players and injured two other students. At Club Q, a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a person opened fire on November 19 killing five people and injuring 22 more. On November 22, a mass shooting occurred at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia. Seven people were killed, including the gunman, and four others were injured. Russia and Ukraine

Fighting between Ukraine and Russia has continued into its eighth month. On November 15, a missile landed in Poland, Ukraine's neighbor and a NATO ally, killing two people. NATO and G7 allied leaders, who were at a summit in Bali, held an emergency meeting to discuss the explosion. Poland's investigation of the missile strike is ongoing. Student Loan Forgiveness

President Biden's student loan debt relief plan has stalled due to lawsuits challenging it. The administration has extended the payment pause on federal students loans until after June or when the debt forgiveness plan is able to move forward. Inflation

The level of inflation in the United States continues to be a concern for many as we enter the holiday season. VOTES

Respect for Marriage Act

The U.S. Senate passed the Respect for Marriage Act on November 29 in a 61–36 vote. The bill provides statutory authority for same-sex and interracial marriages. Click here to read our summary of the legislation.

Speak Out Act

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Speak Out Act on November 16 to prohibit the judicial enforceability of a nondisclosure clause or non-disparagement clause agreed to before a dispute arises involving sexual assault or sexual harassment in violation of federal, tribal, or state law. A joint resolution relating to a national emergency declared by the President on March 13, 2020
