From leaked emails to documents, damning new evidence against Donald Trump emerged over the holidays. But Mitch McConnell is scheming to keep new evidence and witnesses out of the Senate trial.

Here’s the latest impeachment news we’re following:

• December 12: “Total coordination.” Speaking to reporters about how he will conduct the Senate trial, Mitch McConnell said, “Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with the White House counsel.”
• December 14: “I'm not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here.” That’s how South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN he would approach the Senate trial.
• January 2: “Clear direction from POTUS to continue to hold.” Unredacted documents confirm that Trump knew directly about the Ukraine quid pro quo. 
• January 3: “Support for Trump’s Removal Grows;” plus more than half of Americans want the Senate to hear from new witnesses.
• January 6: “I am prepared to testify.” Former White House national security advisor John Bolton announced that he is prepared to testify in the Senate trial.
• January 6: “A trial without the articles.” On Monday Senator Hawley and 10 GOP cosponsors proposed a rule change that would allow them to dismiss the House’s articles of impeachment without holding a trial.
