“You went from being my Mayor to being my boss.”
Hi there,
My name is Lia, and I’m the Correspondence Manager here at Pete for America. That means that I get to read and respond to the emails, letters, and messages of all kinds that folks send into the campaign.
Pete’s birthday is coming up on the 19th, and last week, we asked the Team Pete community to share any birthday notes or well-wishes they might want to send to Pete (and you can still do that by clicking here!). The responses were overwhelming. Tens of thousands of you wrote in to wish Pete a happy birthday, to tell him how much his candidacy means to you, and, of course, to wish him the best of luck in the coming year.
I loved watching all these messages roll in. In the middle of a freezing South Bend winter and a grueling campaign season, it was heartening to read so many kind, joyful, and hopeful words. I wish I could share all of them with you, but since I can’t, here are just a few of my favorites:
And now, for my birthday message to Pete:
Happy Birthday! In the past year, I graduated from college in South Bend -- and you went from being my Mayor to being my boss. Thank you for giving me a flourishing city to call home for the past four years, thank you for giving me a campaign family, and most of all, thank you for giving me hope. All day long, I read messages from people who have made their first political donation because of you, people who feel like they finally have a voice because of you, and people who feel optimistic about our country’s future for the first time in a long time -- because of you. I hope you have a great birthday.
You still have time to write Pete a birthday note of your own! Click here to let him know you’re thinking of him. I can’t wait to read what you write!
