We hope you were able to take some time off last week to thank the people who help fill your plate and to acknowledge those native to the land you're on. This week, we're bringing you an opportunity to urge Congress to prioritize the Child Tax Credit (CTC), new research to learn more about the CTC, and some resources for promoting vaccine materials in your communities. Read on to learn more.

PIF partner First Focus, is circulating a sign on letter to Congress from national, state and local organizations in support of prioritizing tax credits during the closing weeks of the 117th Congress. The letter calls on Congress to enhance the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in any end-of-the-year tax policy decisions, and to prioritize children and youth in households who face the biggest barriers to economic security, including those in immigrant families. The full letter is available here. Organizations interested in signing the letter can fill out this form by 5 pm ET on Monday, December 5, 2022.  

• A new brief from the Urban Institute examines mixed-status immigrant families’ experiences accessing Economic Impact Payments, or stimulus checks, and the impact of these funds on their overall well-being.
• A report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities details new state data on the number of children who are left out of the full CTC who would benefit if the credit were made fully refundable (or fully available) to children regardless of their parents’ earnings. Nationally, nearly 19 million children under age 17 receive less than the full $2,000-per-child credit or no credit at all because their families’ earnings are too low or because the adults were out of work that year. Roughly 1 in 3 children living in rural areas get less than the full credit or no credit at all. 
• A new paper published in JAMA from CHOP PolicyLab found that the discontinuation of monthly Child Tax Credit payments significantly increased food insecurity among lower-income U.S. households with children, further cementing the tie between the CTC and reduced food insecurity.

A couple of weeks ago, PIF partners ACCESS, East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, Chicanos Por La Causa, and NC Field joined us to share best practices to conduct effective COVID and Flu vaccine promotion in immigrant communities. We shared new educational materials developed specifically for immigrants who speak Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean. Working groups offer active members an opportunity to shape key aspects of PIF's work:

RESEARCH: Convenes researchers working on issues connected to PIF’s agenda, and identifies research needs. Makes data accessible to advocates, policymakers, and the public.

FEDERAL ADVOCACY: Cultivates Members of Congress as champions and spokespeople. Develops and advances legislative and administrative policy change strategies.

POLICY/ LEGAL (NERDS): Provides technical analysis of proposed and implemented policy changes.

COMMUNICATIONS: Develops PIF’s communications strategy and materials, including message strategy, media relations, and digital outreach.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: Convenes members to share best practices and approaches on how to educate and empower immigrant families on their eligibility for public programs and tap their power as advocates for change.

STATE POLICY: Brings together state advocates and legal and policy experts to provide analysis and develop strategies to mitigate the effect of federal policy changes and advance state and local reforms that improve safety net access for immigrant families.
