Hey Friend, JUST NOW, President Biden announced at the Tribal Nations Summit that he INTENDS to designate Avi Kwa Ame as Nevada’s NEXT National Monument. We are THRILLED! If you’ve been following along, our team here at IPN has worked DILIGENTLY alongside the Honor Avi Kwa Ame coalition, led by members of our Indigenous community, to protect this sacred landscape. We’ve worked hard to ensure that their wishes and voices are heard at every step of the stay. Earlier this month, Tribal leaders and members, monument supporters, and the general public made their voices heard about this culturally and ecologically significant proposal and the need to safeguard these resources for future generations. This effort to expand federal protection for Avi Kwa Ame has been years in the making, thanks to people like Congresswoman Dina Titus, and finally, it is nearing success thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to supporting locally led efforts across the country to conserve important places — but now, we need them to make a commitment to keep Avi Kwa Ame’s boundaries that the Tribal Nations have requested whole. We still need to get this OVER THE FINISH LINE, and with the Tribes’ requested boundaries FIRMLY in place! Will you sign your name right now to the Honor Avi Kwa Ame petition RIGHT NOW to tell the Biden administration to respect the wishes of our Indigenous community and get this done AS SOON AS POSSIBLE?
