70% of Conservatives Want Immigration, Border Reforms This Year
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The urgency for Congress to act on border and immigration reforms remains.
In new polling of 1,000 registered voters, 73% overall, including 70% of self-identified conservatives, support "Republicans and Democrats working together now, in 2022, on immigration reforms that strengthen border security, allow immigrants brought to the United States as children to earn citizenship, and ensure a legal, reliable workforce for America’s farmers and ranchers."
The differential between support and opposition was 56 points overall (73%-17%) and 46 points among conservatives (70%-24%), with the remainder saying they were unsure.
The National Immigration Forum worked with the Bullfinch Group to include the survey question. Separately, Bullfinch found that the most pressing issue for a plurality of respondents is the economy — including "food prices/inflation," which immigration reforms could help address.
"Time is tight, but Americans are not deterred. They want border and immigration reforms now, from this Congress," said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum. "Congress has bipartisan border, farm workforce and Dreamer solutions ready. Republicans and Democrats should seize this opportunity to serve our nation’s interests by passing focused legislation."
Full crosstabs on the above questions are available here.
The National Immigration Forum, in conjunction with The Bullfinch Group, conducted a nationwide online survey fielded Nov. 18-22, 2022, among 1,200 adults, of whom 1,000 respondents were registered voters. Sampling controls were used to ensure that a proportional and representative number of respondents were interviewed from demographic groups such as age, gender, political affiliation, race, and geographic region. The margin of error for registered voters is ±3.1% at the 95% confidence interval.
