Hi, Thank you for protecting Big Tech CEOs and blocking bipartisan legislation that would hold Big Tech accountable. That’s the message deepfake “Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg” shared with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in our new ad calling out the corrupt coalition of Big Tech and money-grubbing members of Congress. This is the last chance to crack down on Big Tech. We demand Schumer and Pelosi protect the American people — not Zuck, Bezos, and the other Big Tech monopolists! Two important bills fighting Big Tech’s monopoly power are pending in Congress right now. These bills would help protect consumers, workers, and small businesses from Big Tech’s abuses by making it illegal for corporations to use their platforms to squash competitors and run small businesses into the ground. They’re popular and bipartisan. So what’s the hold up? Big Tech has spent $100 million lobbying against the legislation. In the words of #FakeZuck, “Big Tech is the golden goose that keeps giving, and giving, and giving” to Members of Congress (*cringe smile*). Schumer and Pelosi’s failure to act on this legislation is starting to look a lot like corruption. Both leaders have family ties to Big Tech: one of Schumer’s daughters works for Meta (Facebook) and another works for Amazon.1 Pelosi’s family has profited millions off trading Big Tech stocks—raising serious ethics concerns about insider trading in Congress.2 “If Leader Schumer does not call a vote on these bills or attach them to a must-pass vehicle in the weeks ahead, he will have squandered Congress’s best chance to hold Big Tech accountable in a generation,” said Demand Progress Action executive director David Segal. “Zuckerberg, Bezos, and their millions of dollars will have won again.”3 Schumer and Pelosi have an opportunity to break this corrupt cycle and protect American consumers and small businesses from the abuses of Big Tech! We need to make sure they do the right thing. Thanks for taking action, Izzi and the team at Demand Progress Sources:
