Beyond Rhetoric: The Case for Responsible Policy Engagement
November 30, 2022, 1pm ET
Online
As major companies evolve their climate-related corporate and policy engagement practices to meet the demands of investors, the nation’s largest publicly traded companies are increasingly lobbying for policies that will help the U.S. achieve its commitments under the Paris Agreement. However, very few are publicly reckoning with the role of their own trade associations in obstructing climate action. The report, Responsible Policy Engagement Analysis 2022: How Companies Are—and Aren’t—Leading on Climate Policy
, examines the climate-related risk management, governance and lobbying practices of more than 100 S&P 100 companies. (The report analyzed 104 companies that comprised the S&P 100 during 2021 and 2022.) It found significant progress compared to last year in the number of large, publicly traded companies advocating for climate action, as half of the benchmarked companies lobbied in support of at least one Paris-aligned climate policy during the last three years. |
The 2022 Climate Risk Scorecard: Assessing U.S Financial Regulator Action
December 6, 2022, 1pm ET
Online
The 2022 Climate Risk Scorecard, published in June 2022, benchmarked U.S. federal financial regulator progress on climate-related financial risk and communicated progress to various stakeholders, including state and federal regulators, Congress, the public, investors, NGOs, the media, the market, and regulated entities. The Scorecard demonstrates the rapidly changing risk management landscape, highlighting regulatory actions in the United States. This webinar will review and highlight regulator actions addressing climate-related financial risk, explore progress made in the six months since the 2022 Scorecard’s publication, and discuss important next steps. |
Nature Action 100 Soft Launch at UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15)
December 11, 2022, 8:30-10am ET
Place Quebec, Palais de Congrès, Montrealon, Montreal, Canada | Virtual
With mounting evidence of nature’s decline, institutional investors are increasingly recognizing a critical and urgent need to address nature-related risks and dependencies of the companies they own. Companies depend upon functioning natural ecosystems, which play a crucial role in sustaining operations and supply chains. During this COP15 session, a group of investors will announce the formation of a new investor-led global initiative—Nature Action 100—focused on driving greater corporate ambition and action to tackle nature and biodiversity loss. The initiative aims to engage companies in key sectors with the largest impacts and dependencies on nature to ensure they
are taking timely and necessary actions to protect and restore nature and ecosystems.
The Secretariat and Corporate Engagement Working Group of Nature Action 100 is co-led by Ceres and the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC). The Finance for Biodiversity Foundation and Planet Tracker co-lead the initiative’s Technical Advisory Group.
The in-person session is open to registered COP15 participants and journalists. See more information on a virtual livestream link here for those who wish to tune in remotely. |
