our Republic, and our democracy.

November 30, 2022
John,

Greetings from The Union. We hope you had a good Thanksgiving and have plans for the Holiday season that include time with family and friends.

For us, we count your hard work to elect pro-democracy candidates on Nov. 8 as one of the things we are most thankful for this year. Your work put a spotlight on the threat Trump and Trumpism poses to American democracy.

Voters saw that and handed defeat to countless election deniers up and down the ballot and across the country. We celebrate those victories, but more threats remain. Trump is running again and imitators are already auditioning to outdo his extremism. So, our work must continue.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO RE-ELECT SEN. RAPHAEL WARNOCK

Most urgently we are just six days from the Dec. 6 run-off election between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and the anti-democracy Trump extremist Herschel Walker. A win for Warnock will set a 51/49 majority in the Senate. This is going to be another incredibly close election. And as we witnessed in countless November contests, every single vote is going to make a difference.

If you haven’t already, please go to our Action Center ([link removed]) and select an opportunity that interests you to help get-out-the-vote.

Let’s put in the work to return Rev. Warnock to the United States Senate. In January 2021, Georgia voters showed up for Warnock when he beat incumbent Kelly Loeffler by more than 93,000 votes in that year’s runoff, securing a Senate majority with the Vice President’s tie-breaking vote. In six days, we can win that critical 51st seat. That will eliminate the 50/50 split in committees and clear the way for a pro-democracy agenda.

DEMOCRACY WINS
We said at the beginning of our work that we resolve to join together regardless of past differences to preserve our Union, our Republic, and our democracy.

Where the Warnock / Walker race stands: An intense period of campaigning continued as early voting got underway in Georgia on Saturday. The Secretary of State’s office reported Monday evening that more than 500,000 voters had cast their ballots. Please be on the lookout for emails and texts from us about how you can help.

The dilemma – and opportunity - with Gen-Z voters: Gen-Z voters, seeing the threat to democracy that Donald Trump and election deniers posed to America, turned out for Democratic candidates this year. But they are not party loyalists. Far from it. The author of this article writes that, “When asked about how they see the major political parties, today’s college students are anything but enthusiastic. Less than a quarter of all students (21 percent) — Democrats and Republicans included — believe that the Democratic Party is acting in the best interests of democracy and just 25 percent feel the same way about the GOP.”

Democracy had a good day on Election Day: The respected Brennan Center studied how the election went and despite extraordinary pressure, it held up well. Elections officials, both professional and volunteer, conducted a free and fair election that we can be proud of.

2024 U.S. Senate races get an early look: The battle for control of the U.S. Senate will get renewed scrutiny as the 2024 election cycle gets underway. Twice as many Democratic seats are up in that election cycle as Republican seats. The political team at The Hill newspaper looks at what many believe will be the most competitive Democratic races.
