We joined Our Lady Primary School to help with litter picking and bulb planting around the area. Rise Park Action Group also got involved with the bulb planting and bulbs were also planted near the new Aldi.
Litter picking sessions also took place on Hucknall Road and Deptford Crescent. We then joined the NCH Cost of Living Stall at Tescoâs Top Valley and joined the Fire Service checking smoke alarms in the area. Cllr Sam Gardiner said âIt was a busy day for sure but great to see so much work being done by our residents for our wider community, I personally canât wait to see the results in the springâ.

We have offered to assist with funding of defibrillators at our schools in Top Valley, Rise Park and Highbury Vale.
The first defibrillator has been installed on the outside of Rise Park Primary School so that it is accessible to the public in case of an emergency. We are also encouraging groups who have defibrillators to register them on the database used by the emergency services so that callers can be directed to them when necessary.

We have funded two wheelchair accessible picnic benches on Bulwell Forest near to the Pirate Park. We have also ordered accessible play equipment for the Pirate Park and Padley Park on Highbury Road as it is important that children of all abilities can enjoy the facilities.
We were pleased to have stalls at Rise Park, Stanstead and Our Lady's schools summer fairs. We also had a stall at the ten year anniversary of the opening of Bulwell Forest Community Gardens. These events enable us to talk to residents about issues they need our help with and give out information. We also purchased a selection of books to give out to children of all ages.
As part of the Streets for People programme your local Councillors allocated some of their local budget to improve some of the pavements and roads in Bulwell Forest.
Further road surface treatment and highway improvements are planned for the coming year across the ward, including:
- Bestwood Park Drive West - Carriageway Resurface
- Cardington Close - Footway Surface Treatment
- Durham Crescent - Footway Resurface
- Highbury Road - Carriageway Resurface
You can see the whole list and find out more by visiting the streets for people website.

As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis bites, we have launched a campaign to tell people where to look for money help and advice in Nottingham.
The Ask Lion website www.asklion.co.uk/money is a useful one-stop-shop that pulls together simple steps everyone can take to help manage their finances. The advice covers budgeting, benefits, savings, debt, housing problems, food banks and ways to reduce household bills.
The asklion website also signposts people to a wide range of support agencies who can give you free and confidential advice with more complex money problems.
There is obviously a close link between money worries, stress and anxiety. So itâs important to know that mental health support is also available through www.asklion.co.uk/mentalhealth with a directory of local confidential support services.
If youâre worried about money this winter, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone and help is available in Nottingham.

The UK Government has set a national target to increase the amount of waste recycled in England to 65%, while keeping waste that ends up in landfill below 10%. The Government is also introducing new collection rules for food waste and recycling to deliver more consistency across England.
Â
To achieve these goals, the City Council is proposing new options for waste and recycling collections in Nottingham. These include:
- Working on initiatives to help people reuse and repair items rather than throwing them away
- Helping people to manage waste well and recycle the right things
- Starting food waste collections
- Making changes to how we collect recycling
- Offering smaller general waste bins
- Increasing our fleet of âalternative-fuelâ bin lorries
To help us shape the final strategy, we want you to tell us your thoughts on waste and recycling in Nottingham. Sharing your opinions will allow us to create a new strategy that works for the city.
