Tom's Story

When I was in college, my sister was diagnosed with a rare chronic illness. Her diagnosis upended her life, and I, like many Montanans, saw firsthand how broken our healthcare system is. So I ran for State Representative – and won. In fact, I was one of the only candidates in all of Montana to flip a legislative district because I know you have to be willing to talk to everyone, regardless of Party.

My sister's journey and courage inspired me to become an EMT, and open a small family business dedicated to improving access to rural healthcare. In the Montana State House, I was proud to sponsor and pass HB 67 that ensures returning veterans get the same benefits and protections as the rest of us. I've fought for legislation to prevent insurance companies from jacking up our rates and denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. I've fought to make sure rural hospitals remain open, and to protect medicaid expansion in Montana so that hard working people would not be stripped of their care.

I'm running for Congress because Washington is failing Montana, and that needs to change. I'm running for Congress so everyone in Montana can see a doctor when they're sick. I'm running because no hard-working family should have to drain their bank account to care for a loved one .
