Dear John,
Tomorrow, we find ourselves in the first day of summer, and with the holidays rapidly approaching, I hope you and your family are planning on taking some time off and relax over the summer months.
While many businesses are winding down for the year, the Government last week decided to put Parliament in urgency to try and cram through as much legislation as they can before Christmas – including the anti-democratic Three Waters bill (more on that below).
Labour is also planning to slash speed limits on state highways across New Zealand in their ongoing crusade to unnecessarily slow the country down. Instead of investing in our roads to make sure they’re safe to drive on, Labour is taking the easy way out once more with simple, blanket speed limit reductions that won’t actually make a meaningful difference.
Sign our petition below to tell Labour to leave speed limits alone and instead invest in real improvements to our roads to save lives 👇

Re-selection
I am happy to announce that I have been re-selected to run as the National Party candidate for Selwyn in 2023. It has been a real privilege to serve as your Member of Parliament for the last two years and I hope with your support to be able to continue to represent our fast-growing region.
The Selwyn team has been working hard behind the scenes to get ready for next year’s campaign, and if you, or someone you know, would be keen to give us a hand next year – whether that be delivering fliers, helping construct hoardings, or waving signs – we’d love to hear from you!

Three Waters
Labour is continuing to ram through its anti-democratic Three Waters Reform. The Government has totally ignored the 88,383 New Zealanders who took the time, made the effort, sat down, thought about and wrote about their views on the impact that it will have on them and their communities.
Worse still, while Parliament sat under urgency pushing legislation through last week, Labour and the Greens added a provision that means once Three Waters becomes law, in future it would take 60 per cent of MPs to overturn it, instead of a simple majority which applies to almost every law passed.
Earlier this month, I spoke on the second reading of the Water Services Entity Bill which is the first of a suite of new laws, and will legislate for the formation of the mega-entities that will take control of your water infrastructure and assets.

Visit from Andrew Bayly
With many small businesses and local companies feeling the pressure from the Government's determination to increase compliance, regulation, and the cost of doing business, this month I invited National’s spokesperson for these issues, Andrew Bayly, to visit some local operators and to hear the concerns first-hand.
Andrew and I paid a visit to a sustainable housing manufacturer, Fraemohs Homes, met with some local business owners, and visited one of the South Island’s leading structural steel suppliers, Pegasus Engineering.
National would support businesses such as Fraemohs and Pegasus by cutting red tape, giving them the confidence to invest in new machinery and more people, and making it easier to do business.

Out and about
Since becoming the MP for Selwyn, I have made it my mission to be as accessible as possible and to engage with the community the best I can. It’s really important to me to hear first-hand the issues that are impacting you, your family or your business every day.
This month, I have hosted three public meetings around the region to share what National believe are the biggest issues facing the country, what we would do about them, and to gain your thoughts and feedback.
With the Spring Shows in full swing, I have also been at the Hororata Highland Games, Selwyn Fete, New Zealand Agricultural Show, and the (slightly damp) Courtenay A&P Show – as well as community events such as the Selwyn Diwali festival in both Rolleston and Lincoln, and Ellesmere College’s senior prizegiving - just to name a few.
I regularly host a range of different events at all times of the day to ensure that I am available to as many people as possible – if you’re keen to catch up, check out below to see some of my upcoming events.
