Over 400 Vermonters shared their priorities with me. Here they are:
John: When I set off for New Member Orientation in DC earlier this month, I opened up a survey to allow Vermonters to share their priorities directly with me.
I wanted to let you know that my team and I have looked through every single response – because when I say I will carry your hopes, dreams, and wishes with me to Washington, I mean it. Here are just a few of the things I’ve heard from you so far:
“Sustaining my private practice in pediatric physical therapy while being able to afford to live in Vermont with my children. The large businesses/monopolies in my opinion do not serve the needs of their patients in our rural state. I am unable to qualify for Public Service provider student loan forgiveness because I have a private practice …even though my practice only accepts VT Medicaid for insurance coverage!!”
“As a retired teacher, I volunteer at our local food shelf and also started a program to offer homemade soup to our local food shelf. While working on the hunger issue, I am shocked to learn that mega-farms receive huge subsidies while our local farms in VT receive nothing. Meanwhile, many thousands of Americans are food insecure.”
“Of course every one of these things is super important. But voting rights is probably number one as it’s key to everything else. Good to have you there fighting for us. It is an act of bravery to step up at this time to fight for our democracy by and for the people.”
“First, congratulations, Becca! Based upon ongoing reports about global warming, we need to move away from corporate interests and toward truly common needs. Curbing climate change will take all of us.”
“I am extremely concerned about the increasing power of Wall Street and large corporations over all aspects of our lives and its displacement of the role of government in the formulation and execution of public policy.”
While challenging the status quo on all of these issues won’t be easy, our win earlier this month proves that we have the people-power needed to make meaningful change here in Vermont – and we’re just getting started.
If you believe that change is possible, and that people like us have the power to transform our political system, then please contribute $3 to help us finish this month strong and prepare to hit the ground running in Washington in 2023! [[link removed]]

Becca believes the best thoughts are not always from the loudest voices in the room. As President Pro Tem of the Vermont State Senate, she's led the charge to invest in affordable housing, fight climate change, enshrine reproductive freedom into our state's constitution, and so much more. Now, she's running for Congress to have a greater impact on more Vermonters. If you'd like to receive fewer emails and only see our most important updates, click here.
