A Message from Becket's Executive Director

November 29, 2022
Dear Friends,
Each year after we give thanks for our many blessings at Thanksgiving, we have a chance to give back on #GivingTuesday! As you sift through the many appeals hitting your inbox today, I would ask that you take a moment to read about the achievements of the Becket Fund over the past calendar year and prayerfully consider
joining us in the fight<[link removed]>.
Weighing on many of our hearts this year has been education for the next generation. We hope that when they enter the schoolhouse doors the values we teach at home are reinforced, not undermined, and that we have prepared our students to stand up for what they believe in. That’s why we are proud to be fighting in defense of faith-based education and religious student groups that strive to authentically form our children and grandchildren in the faith.
This year, we have taken the religious liberty fight to campus to defend religious students’ equal treatment in our education system.
We went
three<[link removed]>
for<[link removed]>
three<[link removed]> defending the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in lawsuits brought by teachers and guidance counselors who were dismissed after they violated their employment contracts and tenets of the Catholic faith.
We are
defending a high school chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes<[link removed]> after its members were bullied and harassed by teachers and peers and driven off campus for their Christian beliefs.
We are defending Seattle Pacific University against an unlawful shake-down by Washington State’s AG who disapproves of the school’s religious hiring practices.
We
stood up for Yeshiva University<[link removed]> when students and alumni sued to force the school to officially recognize a YU Pride Alliance club in violation of Torah values.
That’s not all—Becket is also on the frontlines protecting
Native American sacred sites<[link removed]>,
defending medical conscience rights<[link removed]> for religious doctors and hospitals, and (as always)
fighting to keep the government off the backs of Catholic nuns<[link removed]> and their life-saving ministries.
This #GivingTuesday we ask that you
join our band of happy warriors<[link removed]> for religious liberty and take up the fight to protect the tradition of freedom we're privileged to enjoy and hope to pass down to future generations.
This #GivingTuesday, I ask that you consider
supporting the Becket Fund<[link removed]> for Religious Liberty.
Sincerely,
Montse
