Dear Friend,
I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of those darn robocalls we all seem to get these days (even U.S. Senators!). Part of the problem is that spammers have found ways to stay ahead of regulators and law enforcement. But today, I’ve got some good news. Over the holidays, the President signed into law legislation I sponsored to close the loopholes and crack down on the robocall spammers.
The Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act gives regulators more time to find scammers, increases penalties for those who are caught, requires phone service providers to adopt call authentication and blocking, and brings relevant federal agencies and state attorneys general together to address impediments to criminal prosecution of robocallers who intentionally break laws.
You can learn more in the video below:
If there’s one thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on, it’s that we need to end these annoying robocalls once and for all. I’m glad we were able to get the TRACED Act passed and signed into law, and I’m looking forward to us all getting fewer robocalls in the near future.
If you want to share your thoughts about an issue that’s important to you, you can send me an email any time using the form on my Senate website. You can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
