Dear Friend, |
Since December 2020, Florida has lost 1,800 manatees. |
In April, I shared that Earthjustice is suing the EPA to save the habitat these creatures rely on to survive. Now, I’m asking for your support again to continue fighting for Florida’s manatees and the clean water we all deserve. |
|
Unchecked pollution from fertilizer, sewage, and manure is causing massive algae outbreaks that kill seagrass — an important food source for manatees, which are already a threatened species. As a result, manatees are starving to death at unprecedented rates. |
The Indian River Lagoon is a warm-water habitat that supports more plants and animals than any other estuary in North America. Almost ten years ago, the EPA approved Florida’s state water quality criteria for the area, concluding they would not “adversely affect” manatees. Now we’re witnessing grim evidence to the contrary. In only two years, we’ve lost 25% of the manatees on Florida’s east coast. |
We're fighting for Florida's manatees in court, and we rely on support from donors like you to fund these legal battles. When you give today, a generous donor has offered to match your gift $4:$1. |
|
I am devastated to see Florida’s manatees starving to death. We must continue fighting to prevent the extinction of manatees and the 1 million other species we’re at risk of losing in the biodiversity crisis. |
For over 50 years, Earthjustice has fought the toughest legal battles to protect the natural world we value so deeply and has advocated for the safe, equitable future that we each deserve. |
We rarely offer a $4:$1 match, but these are exceptional times. If you’re able, please take advantage of this opportunity to expand your impact and our ability to meet the moment. |
JOIN THE FIGHT: Yes, I want my gift matched $4:$1. |
