I’m devastated. I’m heartbroken. And I’m angry.

Politicians like Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott have been using anti-LGBTQ rhetoric to score cheap political points.

We warned them that someone would have to pay the price for dehumanizing the LGBTQ community. But they just couldn’t help themselves.

And now, five people went to a space that was supposed to be safe for them -- a space similar to Pulse Nightclub -- and they came out in body bags.

Dozens of people were injured with scars they’re going to carry forever. And an entire community was terrorized in Colorado Springs.

They paid the price for this shortsighted, cynical, and sinister hate that people like DeSantis and Abbott have been pumping into the ecosystem.

I'm angry because I am tired of asking, begging, screaming, scratching, clawing for people to just see us as human. I’m angry because we deserve to live.

Our community is grieving right now but every time our backs are up against the wall, we’ve chosen each other. We refuse to be erased, and we will push back against hatred at every turn. But we need all the help we can get right now. That’s why I’m working with BAWN to make sure what happened at Pulse and Colorado Springs never happens again. We need 1,500 more gifts before Giving Tuesday is over in 10 hours to hit our goal, fund our efforts to defeat DeSantis’ pro-gun, anti-LGBTQ agenda, and elect candidates dedicated to ending gun violence. This militarized hate must end. The dehumanizing rhetoric about LGBTQ people is inflaming bigotry and our obsession with easy access to deadly weapons is making that bigotry fatal.

All over the country, LGBTQ people are under assault -- hate crimes against LGBTQ people have increased by 51% since last year ALONE.

Our community is strong. Our community is resilient. And I have every confidence that we will be as united and undeterred as ever.

We can do better. We must do better.

But we need allies stepping up, going to bat for us, saying we love you, we care for you, and we will protect you.

That’s why I’m personally asking: Will you step up and chip in $15 to BAWN before midnight? We still need to raise 1,500 gifts before Giving Tuesday is over in 10 hours to hit our goal, defeat DeSantis’ deadly agenda, and continue the fight to end gun violence once and for all.
