Dear Friend,
Giving Tuesday is not just about donating to your favorite cause. It’s also about inspiring others to act and get involved in all sorts of different ways to stand up for justice and the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us today at 1:00 PM EST to join us for a conversation with singer-songwriter Ceci Bastida and author Reyna Grande about the power of the arts in changing the narrative.
About Ceci Bastida: Ceci is an accomplished musician, who has played keyboards with the punk band Tijuana No! and Julieta Venegas. In 2010 she released her first album, Veo La Marea, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy; La Edad de La Violencía, released 24 June 2014; the EP Un Sueño in 2016, which is about the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students in Mexico; and most recently the singles “Dale” and “No Tengas Miedo”. Ceci has also been a supporter of the Young Center for quite some time,
serving as a Volunteer Child Advocate in our Los Angeles office and working with immigrant children as they go through deportation proceedings.
About Reyna Grande: Reyna is the author of the bestselling memoir, The Distance Between Us, where she writes about her life before and after she arrived in the United States from Mexico as an undocumented immigrant child. Her other works include the novels, Across a Hundred Mountains, and Dancing with Butterflies which were published to critical acclaim. Her most recent titles are A Ballad of Love and Glory, a novel set during the Mexican-American War. Most recently
she worked on an anthology by, and about undocumented Americans called Somewhere We Are Human: Authentic Voices on Migration, Survival and New Beginnings.
Published in 2022, this unique collection of 41 groundbreaking essays, poems, and artwork by migrants, refugees, and Dreamers shares what it is like living undocumented today. We are also excited to announce that Somewhere We Are Human is part of our Giving Tuesday Raffle! For all of you who sign up on the link, we’ll announce the winner at the end of our IG Live.
We hope to see you there!
