Today is #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to supporting the organizations you care about most. In the holiday hubbub, this day stands out as an opportunity for you to give back and expand the important work of nonprofits like Population Connection. This year, we’re also giving back! We’re expanding our Global Partners program, and I hope I can count on your support today.
The Global Partners program gives much needed support to small and mid-sized organizations working on wildlife conservation, sexual and reproductive health services, empowering women and girls, and more! The problems that these organizations tackle—much like rapid population growth—are global issues with local effects.
Many of our Global Partners—such as Lemur Love, an innovative conservation charity that works in Madagascar—are located in parts of the world most impacted by the effects of climate change. Adapting to these effects is a critical challenge for the people of Madagascar. Most recently, with Population Connection’s support, Lemur Love was able to start the process of bringing solar energy to the remote Malagasy village of Efoetse.
Efoetse is the nearest village to Tsimanampesotse National Park, where Lemur Love conducts long-term research on ring-tailed lemurs. Their conservation strategy for these lemurs and their habitat includes working with local people—especially the women in these communities—on small-scale sustainable development projects. The goal of each project is to improve livelihoods and decrease the need to extract forest resources for subsistence. We’re proud to partner with them in these innovative endeavors.

Lemur Love is one of over a dozen organizations receiving support from Population Connection this year. Their work complements our existing programs, and we can raise their profiles, share their stories, and broadcast their insights about the challenges related to population growth around the world.
Collectively, these organizations directly impact tens of thousands of people in the communities in which they work—an incredible level of impact that we are honored to take part in!
