MEET MESSIE AND HER FAMILY

DONATE
Giving Tuesday is all about helping others.  Thank you for being part of the U.S. Committee for Refugees & Immigrants (USCRI), whether as a donor, volunteer, board member, or local corporate sponsor.  You are the hero of this story!  You have helped transform many lives through your partnership with USCRI, and just as many individual stories can be told of real lives, people, and futures.

Consider Messie, a single mother, and her children who escaped political instability and ethnic cleansing in their home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, to build new lives in the United States.  Messie’s family emphasizes education, though political turmoil disrupted these dreams.  Messie has always told her children, “Education is the key to life.”

USCRI is proud to serve so many mothers and their families.
Messie’s children enrolled in a program run by USCRI to help young people aged 14 to 24 develop crucial life skills.  In this program, refugee youth learn essential skills to advance in their careers, create healthy family dynamics, and work with difficult emotions, which refugees have experienced extensively.  Without this program, these youth may not gain the skills needed for a successful life in the U.S. nor master the tools to navigate U.S. higher education.  All four of Messie’s children aspire to attend college and have professional careers.  You make these possibilities real for them.

Your gift helps to ensure bright futures for young adults like Messie’s kids.  You change lives with your gifts.  With your support, disruption and despair will never have the last word for those we welcome into our communities to build new lives.
Help us to be there for Messie’s family and many others in similar, otherwise impossible situations.  You make a difference.  Will you help us with a gift today?

Thank you for your care and generosity toward those who otherwise would lack hope in situations most of us will never experience in our lifetimes!
