Hi!
I'm Tim Schollenberger, one of the members of the board of directors at SFDP! As we head in to this season of giving, we wanted to reach out and remind you of the critical services we provide to the community, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and new Mexico as a whole:
- Humanitarian protection for survivors of crime and domestic violence (U Visa, VAWA, T Visa)
- Children who have been abandoned or abused by their parents (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status/SIJ)
-
Family members of US citizens and Legal Permanent Residents who want to apply for family-based residency (Green Cards)
- Applications for work authorization
- DACA and Citizenship
All of these services are provided at little or no cost to those in need; no client will be turned away due to inability to pay attorney’s fees. This is made possible by a great staff, lots of volunteers, and generous donations from organizations and small donors alike.
I choose to give my time and money to SFDP because of my personal experience, learning about the life of undocumented immigrants through my wife and her family. We were lucky enough to be able to afford the expense and time commitments for a lawyer, for her to gain status as a legal permanent resident. I know that not everyone is so lucky, and I am proud to support an organization that helps provide access this opportunity to anyone who is eligible.
Let's hear from a few other board members:
Matt Baca, Board President:
"I give to the Santa Fe Dreamer's project because I believe in the mission, and because I highly value the work of the organization in supporting our neighbors through legal and social systems that are not designed to support their humanity, and more often violate them. SFDP not only provides a critical professional service to the community, but its values put people first. Anyone who believes in treating humans with compassion and dignity should support the work of SFDP. While many of the problems SFDP helps address need fundamental overhaul in Congress, that body is as broken as the system that our served communities face, so anyone considering how to support their neighbors is better off spending their time, energy, and resources on supporting the work of SFDP!"
Julia Anderson:
"I give my time to the Santa Fe Dreamers Project because I believe in the work of the organization and am deeply moved by the stories and experiences shared by individuals and families who have been served by SFDP programming. Supporting SFDP means being a part of the supportive network that affirms and embraces the immigrants and refugees who make our community whole."
Thanks so much for taking the time to learn a little bit about us and the organization that is so near to our hearts. We hope you too appreciate the value that the organization adds to our New Mexican community. All the work that we've described can't happen without the gifts of time and money from our many volunteers and donors. In previous years, individual donations have accounted for greater than 40% of total donations. While this has declined during the pandemic, with your support we can return to our previous funding levels, and continue to provide great services to our local community. Please consider a one time or reoccurring donation HERE, and click HERE to learn more about becoming a partner through our new Solidarity Society!
In solidarity,
Tim Schollenberger, Secretary, Board of Directors
