First it was Morgantown. In 2021, we ran three candidates for Morgantown City Council. They signed on to a bold platform written by Morgantown residents and a pledge not to accept money from big corporations or wealthy landlords. By running together on a slate, our candidates were able to share resources and volunteers, take courageous stands, and build a bond with one another that lasted beyond election day.
Then came Charleston. Last month, 5 out of 9 Charleston Can't Wait candidates won their general election races. Through joint press conferences, phonebanks, door-to-door canvasses, house parties, and webpages, candidates united across race, class, age, and party to stand for common sense changes like municipal broadband, cannabis decriminalization, and harm reduction.
Next up: your town. Make a donation to support 2023 and 2024 slate operations by clicking here.
We think local slates are the best investment for folks who want to win long-term, grassroots power in West Virginia. These races help us build a bench, make real change, and show that politics doesn't have to be dominated by a few landlords, lawyers, and lobbyists. When we run together, we are more efficient and more courageous. We need a thousand leaders, not one.
If you can make a donation to support the next slates, please do so at this link: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/wv-can-t-wait-political-action-committee-1. Or send a check to WV Can't Wait Action Committee / PO Box 1633 / Huntington WV 25717.
Sincerely,
Katey & Stephen, for the WV Can’t Wait team
