TESTIMONIO human rights delegation to Guatemala
Grahame Russell and Catherine Nolin, co-authors of Testimonio, recently led a human rights, fact-finding delegation to Guatemala visiting four mining resistance struggles, some of which are outlined in the book. Stay tuned for a photo essay and analysis of the delegation and visits, coming soon!
For more information on these struggles and more, visit the Rights Action Archives:

Below are two photos from the recent delegation.
Left is the Fenix mine Maya Q’eqchi’ territories in El Estor. Built and operated by then-Canadian mining giant INCO (International Nickel Company), before being passed to the Canadian companies Skye Resources and Hudbay Minerals (2004-2011), then sold to Swiss company Solway Investment Group in 2011.
Right is of the delegation group meeting with community land defenders in the Municipality of Asuncion Mita. Here community members have democratically rejected the Cerro Blanco silver and gold mining project, owned by Canadian Bluestone Resources, and now face criminalizations, government-run public campaigns to malign the municipal consultation organizers, and legal proceedings to attack the legality of the community consultation process and results.
