This year Clifton East councillors arranged the first outdoor Halloween family fun day, which was a huge success.
Faith groups and community volunteers joined us to offer a range of spooky activities for the family, and we were delighted at how many people came along in their finest fancy dress.
Over 1500 people attended the event which held in the “pit” area of the Flower Park, and even included a spooky graveyard section complete with fog machine!
There will be a wide range of family fun activities on offer for the festive season, starting off with the main Christmas Lights Switch On event on 2nd December.
The event will include music, crafts and a variety of activities including Clifton Library’s Santa’s Grotto. The lights will be turned on at 4.30pm, and activities are available until 6.30pm.
Clifton East councillors and volunteers will for the third year running hold their parades around the wards on 10th and 17th of December, 3-7pm.
We also have a Santa’s grotto on the 18th Dec 2-7pm at the memorial next to Clifton library. Please check the Clifton Facebook page for more details.

Councillors have purchased from the ward budget some new benches to be installed around the pit area of the Flower Park, as part of a programme of improvements to the area.
These will be joined with two bespoke cast iron benches that have been funded through local businesses providing sponsorship. We look forward to these being installed and for the community to enjoy using.
As part of the Streets for People programme, we have agreed a programme of works for improving some of the pavements and roads in Clifton East, totalling over £500,000.
This is money which is reserved for highway work and cannot be spent on anything else. It sounds like a lot of money, but given the amount of work needed to improve the condition of the roads it is a drop in the ocean.
Works include maintenance on Green Lane and Summerwood Lane, and improving the footway on Summerwood Lane, as well as reducing the speed limit on side roads to 20mph, and improving safety around schools with School Keep Clear markings.
We have also set money aside for tree works, urban greening projects and a programme of bin replacements. You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.
Drop-in surgeries with your local Councillors are now taking place, so why not come along to ask a question or share an idea on how to make Clifton East ward better place to live.
Surgeries are held at:
Clifton Community Centre (The Shed) 1st Saturday of each month 10am - 11:30am

As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis bites, we have launched a campaign to tell people where to look for money help and advice in Nottingham.
The Ask Lion website www.asklion.co.uk/money is a useful one-stop-shop that pulls together simple steps everyone can take to help manage their finances. The advice covers budgeting, benefits, savings, debt, housing problems, food banks and ways to reduce household bills.
The asklion website also signposts people to a wide range of support agencies who can give you free and confidential advice with more complex money problems.
There is obviously a close link between money worries, stress and anxiety. So it’s important to know that mental health support is also available through www.asklion.co.uk/mentalhealth with a directory of local confidential support services.
If you’re worried about money this winter, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone and help is available in Nottingham.

Warning – criminals are using the NHS Covid Pass and pretending to be the NHS as a way to target the public by convincing them to hand over money, financial details and personal information.

On scams generally - remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. These include festive getaways at very low prices and ‘easy’ ways to make money, like cryptocurrency and investments. Take a moment to check Citizens Advice’s Online Scams Helper to protect yourself.
The UK Government has set a national target to increase the amount of waste recycled in England to 65%, while keeping waste that ends up in landfill below 10%. The Government is also introducing new collection rules for food waste and recycling to deliver more consistency across England.
To achieve these goals, the City Council is proposing new options for waste and recycling collections in Nottingham. These include:
- Working on initiatives to help people reuse and repair items rather than throwing them away
- Helping people to manage waste well and recycle the right things
- Starting food waste collections
- Making changes to how we collect recycling
- Offering smaller general waste bins
- Increasing our fleet of ‘alternative-fuel’ bin lorries
To help us shape the final strategy, we want you to tell us your thoughts on waste and recycling in Nottingham. Sharing your opinions will allow us to create a new strategy that works for the city.
