What’s it like to defy the odds? Just ask Charlotte Merrill.

Charlotte was born with cerebral palsy and ataxia. Doctors told her parents that she would never walk or talk. But doctors underestimated just how strong and capable people with intellectual disabilities (ID) can be, especially when they find their community in a place like Special Olympics.

Now, at 18 years old, Charlotte is a seasoned athlete participating on several Special Olympics Unified Teams. She’s found a personal passion for motivational speaking. And with every first — with every new sport, every new speech — Charlotte shows the world the power of Special Olympics athletes!
