Dear John:

As we turn the corner toward the holidays and a new year—and CMD’s 30th Anniversary!—I want to take a moment to thank you for all that you do, both for the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) and the wider community of good people working to make this world a better place.

Today is Giving Tuesday, the unofficial start of the year-end giving season, and the day when people across the globe unleash a wave of radical generosity to transform our communities and our planet.

After a year of near-constant threats to fair elections, November 8 showed us just how resilient American democracy can be. Still, with more than 180 election deniers now serving in Congress and a Supreme Court stacked by dark money groups, many threats lie ahead.

That’s why our team at CMD has been working overtime to expose the dark money and right-wing groups that have been spreading Trump’s Big Lie, attacking our voting rights, and dominating our politics and courts.

So I hope we can count on you today—on #GivingTuesday—to make a generous tax-deductible gift to the Center for Media and Democracy to support our award-winning investigations.

CMD continued to punch above its weight in 2022. Just a few of the highlights include:

• Breaking the story on how the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and other groups are colluding with Big Oil to get red states to blacklist companies that take into account climate risks and favor renewables.
• Exposing how ALEC and right-wing politicians like Scott Walker and Rick Santorum plan to force a constitutional convention that would give GOP politicians supermajority control over rewriting our nation’s founding document.
• Outing more than 200 ALEC legislators for belonging to far-right Facebook groups that spread disinformation and poison our politics.

But there is so much more to be done in 2023—and we can’t do it without you!

CMD’s scrappy crew of investigative reporters and pro bono lawyers will hit the ground running in the new year to expose the corporate Right’s plans to subvert future elections, stoke the culture wars, block climate progress, and crush unions.
