Dear Friend,
What do you do when the deck's stacked
against you..? Reshuffle. That's what we and our allies did
after losing on House Bill 6. I'll never forget that meeting when we
all came together to figure out what went wrong and where we'd head
next. The answer was clear - we had to change our field of battle and
go on the offensive.
One big lesson we've learned is that good energy
policy can't happen in Ohio without changes at the ballot
box. That's why we revived our electoral work after 28 years and started endorsing candidates
again.
The issue
campaigns and candidates we support must be pro-climate, pro-consumer
and/or pro-democracy.
And the work will be hard, especially at first.
Gerrymandering makes many races less competitive. The real competition
of primary races prompts both incumbents and challengers to out-do
each other's extreme positions to excite and mobilize their base. And
since those seats are so safe, lawmakers respond less to public
pressure. Add dark money and you've got a disgusting
mess that leads to bad policy and corruption.
But we're making progress. In just 9 weeks, we
knocked on over 32,261 doors in support of clean
energy candidates. And this was just our pilot year.
Your special #GivingTuesday gift helps build
grassroots power today and for the future
The House Bill 6 battle felt like trench warfare at
times. We were dug in so deep that it was hard to see anything else.
When the scandal erupted, it shone a light of vindication proving our
worst suspicions.
You provide the
strength to turn the tables on all the backward thinking and
corruption. You help us fight for something new that works for all
Ohioans. And we never take your trust for
granted.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
