Hi, John – as a longtime Save the Children partner, a parent and a person who cares deeply about supporting children, let me explain what your Giving Tuesday gift would mean today.
Save the Children was the world’s first global organization to prioritize children’s needs, and they continue to lead the way in this space today. In moments of emergency, they are often the first organization to respond and the last to leave, working tirelessly to ensure children are safe and supported and to help communities recover.
I saw this work in action firsthand earlier this year when heavy rainfall and flooding devastated communities in eastern Kentucky. I joined Save the Children’s emergency response teams in the aftermath of this disaster to deliver water, toiletries, diapers and other essential supplies to families who had lost everything. Then, we visited Save the Children’s partner schools across the region to assess the damage – some were completely destroyed – and begin to make plans for recovery.
Because, as important as children’s immediate survival is in the wake of a disaster, it is equally important to Save the Children to ensure that their education can continue, that they get mental health support after traumatic events and that their futures are not permanently disrupted.
This is the sort of work Save the Children is doing all across the world every day to help children confront hardships outside of their control, including natural disasters, poverty, conflict and hunger. Supporters like you make all this and more possible, John.
