Straight to the Top

What to Know: Democratic attorneys general defending the Affordable Care Act following a recent Fifth Circuit ruling have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case immediately.

The TPPF Take: This request is about politics, not legal procedure.

“This is a tactic that shows how eager the Democrats are to move the narrative away from the Medicare-for-All discussion,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke, who argued the case on behalf of individual plaintiffs. “Their reason for the timing of these filings has more to do with the political calendar than the merits of the case.”

What about the kids?

What to Know: Some school districts are giving their superintendents hefty longevity bonuses, on top of six-figure salaries and other pricey perks.

The TPPF Take: Bonuses should be linked to one thing—how well children are being educated.

“These hefty bonuses are costly and have no link to a superintendent’s performance or student achievement,” says TPPF’s Grace Watson. “This is just the latest example of public school superintendents living large on the taxpayer dime. This should not go unnoticed by those at the Capitol.”

Doom Delayed

What to Know: A self-described climate “alarmist” writing in the New Yorker now admits that the worst predictions of climate doom are unlikely.

The TPPF Take: Maybe some of the Democratic presidential candidates will amend their warnings of impending doom.

“The actual numbers invalidate the apocalyptic climate change narrative, so alarmists have had no other choice than to resort to fear tactics and move up the countdown clock,” said TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Despite the hysterical headlines, the data simply doesn’t justify strangling our economy and quality of life. Maybe they’re starting to realize this.”
