Our hearts are heavy tonight after we learned that Congressman Donald McEachin has passed after losing his battle to colorectal cancer. We are eternally grateful for the 26 years of service he dedicated to the people of Virginia and the people of the United States of America. Donald McEachin dedicated his life to service in the Commonwealth of Virginia, having served in the Virginia House of Delegates, Virginia State Senate, and finally the United States House of Representatives. He made history as
the third-ever Black Virginian to represent the Commonwealth in Congress.
During his time in office, he was a relentless ally for racial, gender, and LGBTQ+ equality as well as civil rights. He worked diligently to prevent gun violence and protect our environment. Congressman McEachin worked up until the very end as hard as he could to fight for his constituents and for those who he did not represent in Congress. We thank him and his family for the sacrifices they made, and our thoughts are with those who survive him tonight.
“Our hearts go out to the McEachin family,” said VAYD President Denver Supinger. “This is a great loss for the Commonwealth and
the nation. May he rest in peace.”
Rest in Peace, Congressman.
