Indivisibles,

So far, over 180,000 people have cast their ballots early in Georgia. That includes over 70,000 Georgians voting on Saturday and more than 85,000 on Sunday. This would not have happened if MAGA Republicans had their way.

Republicans attempted to block early voting this weekend by exploiting a technicality they created after forcing through new procedures following the 2020 Georgia Senate runoff. The rule cited prohibits early voting on the weekend following a holiday for a primary or general election. This became a problem this cycle after Republicans slashed the amount of time between the general election and the runoff in a blatant attempt to undermine the ability of Democrats, and specifically Black and Brown working class Georgians, to vote.

But Georgians were not deterred. After numerous legal challenges, Georgia Democrats were able to secure the ability for counties to choose to hold early voting this past weekend (the only weekend available for this runoff). Though lines were often long and some voters had to wait hours to vote, Georgians persisted.

This is a win for the working class. This is a win for BIPOC communities. This is a win for the country as a whole.

Our democracy functions best when everyone has easy access to the ballot.

Over 150,000 people spoke up this weekend. Let’s keep up the work to ensure that every Georgian’s voice is heard.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. RSVP for our Georgia Runoff Phonebank Party with Gaslit Nation this Thursday, December 1 at 6pm ET/3pm PT. Andrea Chalupa, co-host of Gaslit Nation, will join Indivisibles calling voters in Georgia prior to the December 6 runoff. Andrea is an expert in election hacking who regularly does deep dives on current news and events around the globe. Don’t miss this chance to hear from her while we get out the vote.
  2. RSVP for our Georgia Runoff Phonebank Party with Gaslit Nation next Monday, December 5 at 5pm ET/2pm PT. If you can’t come on Thursday, join us on Monday for our final day of GOTV phonebanking. Or join us for both! We’d love to have you.
  3. Check out our new Georgia Runoff: How Indivisibles Can Get Involved page. Once you’re done registering for those phonebanks, read about all of the ways you can get involved in our efforts to get Sen. Warnock reelected.
  4. Read and share our newest Indivisible Unpacked resource on Trump’s push for political violence. Trump has brought open hate speech and violent rhetoric back into the mainstream Republican Party. Read up on his tactics, the deadly results of that rhetoric, and what we can do to combat it.
  5. Sign up for the Indivisible Truth Brigade. Propaganda, false characterizations, intentionally misleading messages, and outright lies threaten our democracy and even our lives. We can effectively combat disinformation, despite the well-funded machines that drive it. People believe sources they trust! Sign up to learn how to fight disinformation in a way that drives change and protects our communities from the threat of extremism.

The midterm elections are not over. A runoff means an extended period where we need to support Rev. Warnock in his Senate bid. Donate to fund all of our phonebanking, textbanking, canvassing, and more.

Final Session

The “final session” or “final legislative session” is the period of time between an election and the inauguration of the new Congress.

This year’s final session is critically important because it is the last period where we will hold a Democratic trifecta for at least the next two years. With Republican control of the House, we know that they will block any attempt at substantive legislation Democrats push forward. We must do as much as possible in this time period to deliver the Democratic agenda.

Congress is back in session this week and the first thing on the docket should be final passage of the Respect for Marriage Act in the Senate, sending it to the House to enshrine national protections for marriage equality into law. Following that, there is a December 16 deadline to approve government funding and avert a shutdown. But, there will still be more to do. We need them to work faster and harder so that they can pass more.

To achieve this, Congress must stay in session seven days a week until the new Congress is seated. If we can convince Congress to do this, we have the opportunity to achieve priorities such as: lifting the debt ceiling through reconciliation, passing viable bipartisan legislation like the Electoral Count Act, and securing progressive wins.

We cannot let this crucial period of control go to waste. Here’s how you can help:
