When you donate your appreciated assets to a nonprofit organization
like the SPLC, you can save on your taxes by avoiding capital gains
tax. Furthermore, if you itemize deductions on your tax return, you
can also take a charitable deduction for the entire donation amount.
And you may even receive carryover of the deduction for up to five
additional years if the fair market value of the gift is more than 30%
of your adjusted gross income.

If you want to realize these tax benefits on your 2022 tax return, you
need to act quickly. Eligible stock and securities gifts must be made
by Dec. 31.
