Friend, the human cost of the war in Ukraine is growing every day, as the fighting intensifies in the east with no end in sight. Those who are most impacted are also the most vulnerable: elderly, women, and children are being killed or injured by indiscriminate bombing and shelling on their homes, shelters, and even evacuation routes.
Ordinary people like Dizhamshid, who was bringing his cows out to the field when an explosive device went off and seemed to “[rip his] stomach open," are getting caught in the crossfire.
In response to the dire need, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has expanded its emergency response operations in areas near active conflict—but our teams desperately need more resources and support so that we can step up whenever crisis strikes.
The war has devastated families, decimated communities, and created an urgent and large-scale need for medical assistance. MSF continues evacuating patients by ambulances and trains from overwhelmed hospitals in war-affected areas in the east to hospitals in safer parts of the country. But, we need your help, Friend.
A staggering 40 percent of patients treated on MSF medical trains for their injuries from the war have been elderly people and children with blast wounds, amputations, and injuries from shrapnel or gunshots.
