But with right-wing extremists coming to power in Israel who threaten to supercharge settlement construction, violate fundamental rights and shake the very foundations of Israel’s democratic future, J Street’s pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy mission is more urgent than ever. Benjamin Netanyahu is in the process of forming a new Israeli government backed by far-right extremists who have defended settler violence, championed de facto annexation in the West Bank, and even threatened to expel Arab citizens of Israel. The situation on the ground is already deteriorating and incendiary -- and has the potential to get much, much worse.

Every year, the Israeli government sends thousands of young Israelis to risk their lives guarding demolition crews, checkpoints and illegal settlements. Generations of Palestinian children have grown up without basic civil rights for over 55 years. Right-wing Israelis and their supporters in the United States would rather that American leaders never see or discuss the occupation; at J Street we believe that honestly reckoning with the impact of the occupation is absolutely critical to understanding and ending the cycle of violence and injustice.

Our community is directly feeling the ongoing surge in open antisemitism and white nationalism. We know that pushing back starts with us, and we must fight against it in all its forms.
