We're back from a long weekend, and ready for a week of support, education, and advocacy.

World AIDS Day is this Thursday, and we are looking forward to a great episode of Something to Talk About Live to mark the day--be sure to check out our three steps to being a better advocate in service of this important date.

Also: A vote on the Respect for Marriage Act is taking place THIS WEEK! See our advocacy section below and be sure to contact your Senators to vote YES.

Support

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday

This is usually the spot where we offer support to you--this week, we're asking you to consider supporting us for #GivingTuesday! This global day of giving, following major holiday shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is a way to not just give to the people you love, but to give to the causes you care deeply about.

Can we count on you to give an early #GivingTuesday gift today?

You are critical in helping to ensure every parent, family member, and ally of an LGBTQ+ person has the resources they need to affirm and support their loved one--and that every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved.

Visit pflag.org/GiveToday, or text PFLAG to 41444. We are grateful for you and all that you do to create a caring, just and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

Education

Three Steps to Being a Better World AIDS Day Advocate

December 1st is World AIDS Day. Here are some ways to make sure you are being a great advocate for people with HIV and AIDS, as well of being mindful on I’m how to prevent its spread.

  1. Learn: Learn more about the National AIDS Trust’s annual World AIDS Day at their website. Brush up on PFLAG’s policy statements, which includes details about our board-approved policy statements on inclusive sexuality education, HIV and STD prevention, and safe and welcoming schools. Take a look at our recommendations for culturally competent healthcare for people who are LGBTQ+, including those who have HIV and AIDS.
  2. Watch: Watch our PFLAG Academy Online session about LGBTQ+ inclusive sexual education to stay mindful of safe sex practices.
  3. Share: Add the virtual Red Ribbon to your social media profile pictures to share your support for World AIDS Day. Stay up to date with the National AIDS Trust on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Advocacy

The Respect for Marriage Act Gets a Final Vote THIS WEEK!

Tell your Senators to VOTE YES--or thank them if you know they have already pledged their YES vote! The Respect for Marriage Act (RMA) will repeal DOMA and codify into law the right to same-sex and interracial marriage, rights which could become under threat following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

We are now in the home stretch: No matter WHO your Senators are, tell them to get this bill across the finish line and vote YES on RMA!

Something to Talk About...Live!

December 1st is The 34th Annual World AIDS Day

Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day, is a global event meant to support the estimated 38 million people living with HIV and AIDS and commemorate the more than 35 million people who have lost their lives since the virus was first identified in 1984.

Join us this Thursday, December 1 at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something to Talk About Live where we will discuss “World AIDS Day draws attention to the epidemic" by Eric Burkett, which appeared in the Bay Area Reporter.

We're excited to welcome José M. Zuniga, PhD, MPH President/Chief Executive Officer at the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC) to the conversation!

As always, you can find us on FacebookYouTubeTwitter, and LinkedIn.

To learn more--and to check out our discussion questions in advance--visit pflagnation.al/STTALive-120122.

Remember: We're here to help. Find us all at pflag.org/about/our-people.

Let’s stay safe, stay healthy--and stay connected.
