Last week, we emailed you about how Taylor Swift's latest tour sales on Ticketmaster sparked a national dialogue about the corrupt consequences of the Ticketmaster-Live Nation monopoly - as well as an investigation led by the Department of Justice.

We’ve got bad blood with Ticketmaster after it mishandled Taylor Swift’s ticket sales – fans waited in virtual queues for up to six hours and were left with sweet nothing.

 

But that’s not all. Ticketmaster is also under investigation by the Department of Justice for potential violations of antitrust law (we have one word - karma).

When Ticketmaster and Live Nation merged in 2010, they formed a monopoly that now controls a massive portion of ticket sales with virtually no competitors at the same scale. Now, Ticketmaster can charge as much as 70% more per ticket in mysterious service fees – and these prices can skyrocket when bots bypass Ticketmaster’s weak security system to buy large amounts of tickets for resale.

 

Now, top Democrats like Senator Amy Klobuchar and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are calling for a full investigation into the Ticketmaster-Live Nation monopoly – so it can be broken up for good.
