Dear John,
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. It’s an inspiring day, where kindness replaces commerce, compassion replaces competition, and action replaces inaction.
It’s a day that brings hope and help to so many worthy causes all around the world.
This Giving Tuesday, as you consider where to donate your hard-earned money, we want to share with you how even a small donation to WildAid can help protect wildlife, defend critical marine areas, and preserve key habitats around the world.
With your support, WildAid recently:
* Launched Nigeria’s largest ever wildlife awareness program to reduce demand for illegal bushmeat in major urban centers, support enforcement activities to tackle the illegal wildlife trade, and raise awareness of disappearing wildlife.
* Supported Operation Hook—a program to rescue, treat, and release sea turtles injured by fishing gear in Ecuador. This program, along with our enforcement efforts of Marine Protected Areas, demonstrated a marked decrease in sea turtles impacted by fishing gear: only 28% of the turtles rescued in 2022 had hooks, compared to 70% found in 2021!
* Achieved an 80% success rate in safely deterring elephants from raiding crops, reducing conflict between humans and elephants.
* Expanded our marine protection work to 75 sites, a 17% increase from 2021. Help us continue to protect critical habitats around the globe ([link removed]) .
* Released a Climate Action Handbook in Chinese and English to help people easily identify and eliminate barriers to climate action in their own lives. More than 85% of the surveyed campaign audience in China was willing to learn and act on climate change. This awareness is critical as climate is rapidly becoming the top threat to wildlife around the world.
* Delivered the first interceptor patrol vessel and revamped the marine control center to strengthen enforcement of the Galapagos and new Hermandad Marine Reserves. This is key to intercepting illegal fishers, identifying hot spots of illegal activities, and protecting the iconic wildlife that live and migrate in these waters.
* Expanded our marine program to two new sites in Cuba to protect the Caribbean's most pristine coral reefs.
With your help, we’ve made huge strides to protect wildlife and wild places.
But as the population grows, and habitats become more limited, the threats to species such as elephants, rhinos, mantas, turtles, and sharks are more urgent than ever.
Join us in protecting this beautiful world on Giving Tuesday.
