On Tuesday, November 29, the Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8876) is slated to be considered on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. If passed through Congress, H.R. 8876 would reauthorize the federal Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program, which enables states, territories and tribal entities to develop and implement evidence-based, voluntary home visiting programs among their communities.

The Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act recognizes home visiting’s impact on strengthening communities and promoting positive parent-child relationships, and it responds to the requests of families and advocates in a thoughtful and productive manner. Highlights include increased funding for states (after more than a decade of level-funding), increased and allocated funding for tribal populations and set-aside funding for workforce supports and retention and research.


As a champion for early learning and care for 40 years, we know that starting at home and supporting families from pregnancy or birth into the preschool years is vital. When parents and caregivers are well supported, young children thrive.
