How much power should Trump have regarding military action against Iran?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has announced that her chamber will soon "introduce and vote on a War Powers Resolution to limit" President Donald Trump's "military actions regarding Iran.”

The president has threatened to target Iranian cultural sites and to impose sanctions on Iraq after Iraqi lawmakers passed a resolution requesting the government expel U.S. troops.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran are at one of their highest points since the 1979 Iranian Revolution after a U.S. drone strike killed Iran's top general, Qasem Soleimani.

From Pelosi’s letter:

"Last week, the Trump Administration conducted a provocative and disproportionate military airstrike targeting high-level Iranian military officials. This action endangered our service members, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran."

In a statement Friday, Trump said the assassination of Soleimani was not intended to start a war:

“We took action last night to stop a war, we did not take action to start a war. I have deep respect for the Iranian people, they are a remarkable people with an incredible heritage and unlimited potential."

Should Congress limit Trump’s actions in Iran?

Graham Proposes Changing Senate Rules if Pelosi Doesn’t Send Articles of Impeachment

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News that if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) doesn’t send the Senate the articles of impeachment this week, he’ll try to change the upper-chamber’s rules to allow for a trial to proceed without them.

"If we don’t get the articles this week, then we need to take matters in our own hands and change the rules, deem them to be delivered to the Senate so we can start the trial, invite the House over to participate if they would like," Graham said on "Sunday Morning Futures." "If they don’t come, dismiss the case and get on with governing the country."

Pelosi has suggested she’ll delay sending the articles of impeachment against Trump to the Senate until Democrats are guaranteed a “fair trial,” which would include calling witnesses.

Graham pushed back against this argument, telling Fox that Pelosi was engaging in a “political stunt” and the Senate should “take matters in our own hands.”

Should the Senate change impeachment rules if Pelosi doesn’t send over the articles of impeachment?

Deporting Mexican Asylum-Seekers to Guatemala

The U.S. will begin deporting Mexican asylum-seekers - including families - to Guatemala as they wait out their cases. In the past, Mexican nationals remained in the U.S. as they awaited their hearings.

"Certain Mexicans seeking humanitarian protections in the United States may now be eligible to be transferred to Guatemala and given the opportunity to seek protection there, under the terms of the Guatemala Asylum Cooperative Agreement," a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told Buzzfeed.

Interviews with asylum officers will determine if a person is eligible for deportation to Guatemala.
