Dear John,
It’s not an overstatement to say that Alessandra Biaggi and Julia Salazar have fundamentally transformed New York State politics and made millions of lives better.
Thanks in no small part to their leadership in Albany (and the work we did together to help elect them and other progressive candidates to take back the State Senate last year) thousands of people have already been saved from eviction. New York is moving to end a two-tiered justice system that criminalizes poverty. And the state has taken decisive action to protect women’s reproductive rights in the face of Washington’s attacks.
So I am proud to share the news today that Alessandra and Julia are endorsing my campaign for New York City Comptroller , to bring the values of equity, justice, and accountability that have guided my work in the City Council citywide.
Will you join them in supporting me? [[link removed]
So many of you joined me in pounding the pavement, knocking doors, and raising funds to help take back the State Senate in 2018. We sent Alessandra and Julia to Albany to take on the stagnation and obstruction that had held New York State back from the kind of progressive leadership we need in this time of political crisis.
Julia and Alessandra have brought people-powered, grassroots movements into office with them, fighting alongside tenant movements to pass historic renter protections, partnering with formerly incarcerated people to transform our bail system, and working with environmental justice advocates to pass historic climate legislation.
In the next two years we have a huge opportunity to build on that work and send a slate of elected officials into office, in Washington, in Albany, and right here in the City, with deep ties to justice movements and a deep commitment to our shared values.
Even as we fight to restore our democracy at the state and federal level, we must also continue to work for a fairer, more inclusive, more sustainable city. I am running to be the next NYC Comptroller because I believe it is possible to manage our city in a way that is consistent with our values. To ensure that all New Yorkers have access to good-paying jobs, better public transportation, affordable housing, good schools, and safe streets, in more sustainable and resilient neighborhoods.
The office of the Comptroller, New York City’s chief accountability officer, has the tools to help ensure that we deliver services efficiently and equitably, that we hold ourselves accountable to commitments to justice, equity, and sustainability, and that we manage our city’s budget in a way that aligns with our values and long-term plans for our collective future.
Will you join Alessandra and Julia in investing early in my campaign today? [[link removed]]
With gratitude,
Brad
