Colleagues and Friends,

Colleagues and Friends,

Three weeks after the mid-term elections, LDAD continues its focus on protecting democracy and the rule of law. In recognition of Giving Tuesday, an anonymous donor has just offered a five thousand dollar matching gift for donations made between now and the end of Giving Tuesday.

Please consider a Giving Tuesday donation to LDAD to help us continue and expand upon our work: www.ldad.org/donate

As we continue to await results in close races and recounts, the pace of that process should be seen as a success for democracy. Diligent election workers continue to ensure honest election results, shutting out the noise - and sometimes even threats - to focus strictly on the count. Most losing candidates have done what others have historically done as a matter of course – conceded defeat. The voters are speaking with increasing clarity.

There is much to consider as a result of the elections and the state of our two-party system. Our colleague, Evan Falchuk, is a former Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate for the United Independent Party. In a recent letter to the Boston Globe, he wrote that Americans may say they want a third party, but what they truly seek are “sane candidates who care about public service.” We hope that these mid-term election results ultimately reinforce that observation and will move the country towards rational political discourse.

We appreciate your support and always welcome hearing from you. We all have a stake in safeguarding our democratic institutions. Please send your matching Giving Tuesday gift to help us focus on protecting democracy.
