Triple your impact this Giving Tuesday

Dear Friend,

If you missed Brian’s email from last week, I forwarded it below.

Now is a critical moment in our nation to build drug policies that embrace the full humanity of people who use drugs, and promote science, compassion, health, equity, and human rights. I encourage you to take advantage of the limited triple match opportunity and donate now before the time is up.

We can’t afford to lose momentum—not when hundreds of people are dying every day from preventable drug overdoses. And not when people are being arrested for drug possession every 31 seconds in this country.

When you give today, you can TRIPLE your support to fight the oppressive drug policies that have been holding us back for more than 50 years. Please make a special gift that can TRIPLE today.

From all of us at the Drug Policy Alliance, I want to thank you for fighting to change drug laws, advance justice, and save lives. We still have more to do!

We need your continued support to help advance more policies to treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem, while fighting for every person to be able to live freely and with dignity regardless of drug use.

If you have not yet donated to the Giving Tuesday campaign, please do so today.

Dear Friend,

I believe that overdose is preventable and that people who use drugs deserve humanity and compassion, especially if they are using drugs problematically. One of the most important steps we can take right now is to decriminalize drugs and invest in a health approach.

I’m writing you today to ask an important question: Are you willing to partner with us to fight for a world that honors the health and well-being of people who use drugs?

There are many reasons for you to support the decriminalization of drugs and an investment in health services. Maybe it’s because you know that everyone must have access to education, housing, and employment in order to thrive. Criminalizing drugs blocks these resources and opportunities.

Or maybe it’s because you have lost a loved one, and you want to ensure people can get help without fear. I personally want to end the war on drugs because I grew up with a father who used drugs problematically. I experienced how few options there were to get him meaningful support without fear of him being arrested or taken from me.

That’s why I’m so emotional about this special opportunity to triple your impact to support drug policies that put people’s health and well-being first. Between now and midnight on Tuesday, your donation will be triple matched to help meet our $150,000 goal.

Your commitment to fighting for a world that embraces the humanity of people who use drugs and fights to keep them alive is so very important. I am grateful to you and all of our donors and activists who are standing with us in this fight.

We’ve done so much together, including drastically expanding addiction and other health services by spearheading Measure 110 in Oregon decriminalizing drugs. We have inspired the founding of the nation’s first legally sanctioned overdose prevention centers, which are saving lives, reversing more than 500 overdoses in one year. We powered the passage of the MORE Act in the House, which will ensure marijuana use and possession is not criminalized. And now, we are working to move its companion bill, the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act, through the Senate.

And still, there is so much at stake. The overdose crisis is growing. People are being arrested for drug possession every 31 seconds in this country.

Think about it. In the time it took you to read this email, three people in America could have been arrested for drug possession. An arrest that could affect their ability to get a job or housing.

Please, for whatever reason you are in this fight, make a gift today and take advantage of this triple matching gift opportunity. Every dollar counts and will power our work forward.
