DC teachers reach tentative contract agreement
DC Public Schools (DCPS) and Washington Teachers Union leadership reached a tentative contract agreement last Wednesday. “Today, we are proud the reach an agreement that delivers robust back pay in recognition of the tireless efforts and sacrifice our teachers have made over the past three years,” said WTU President Jacqueline Pogue Lyons, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and DCPS Chancellor Lewis Ferebee in a joint statement. The tentative deal includes a 12% salary increase over four years and a 4% retention bonus. “Beyond pay and benefits, it was important for this agreement to reflect the respect the District has for teachers and the work they do for DC’s students,” the statement said. “We will continue to work together and across government to make sure our schools, teachers and students have everything they need to do well.”

CLUW names UFCW 400’s Steve Meador “Man of the Year”
UFCW Local 400 representative Steve Meador was recently named Man of the Year by the Western Virginia Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). He received the award at the Bread and Roses Labor Awards Dinner in Roanoke for his dedication to the labor movement, his political activism, and his fierce advocacy for his members. “I was very honored to be chosen as man of the year,” Steve said. “I don’t take it lightly. I was very humbled that people think I’m making a difference for our members and for workers overall.” Read more here.
