Before the conflict began in Ukraine, railroads were an everyday part of life. Now, they’re a lifeline for those fleeing intense violence.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)’s medical trains were uniquely developed to transport patients from overwhelmed hospitals near active war zones to Ukrainian hospitals with more capacity. Onboard these trains, MSF medical staff care for patients whose homes have been devastated by bombing and shelling.

Every day, MSF staff provide vital support amidst ongoing conflict in Ukraine and other emergency situations in over 70 countries. Around the globe, people facing displacement, natural disasters, a severe lack of access to affordable care, and more rely on assistance from MSF.

Our medical trains provide much-needed relief for overburdened hospitals and health facilities near the front lines of the conflict. MSF doctor Albina Zharkova says they’ve treated patients with traumatic amputations, head injuries, severe burns, and more due to wounds from bullets, shrapnel, and explosions.

Since March of this year, we’ve medically evacuated over 2,000 injured patients and their families. Of the patients transported, 33 percent were trauma cases. This lifesaving work has been made possible by supporters like you.
