Dedicated to Rachel Carson on the 60th anniversary of Silent Spring
Dear John
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Silent Spring, one of the most important environmental books of the 20th century. We dedicate this November issue of Pesticide News to the book's author, Rachel Carson, who wrote a ground-breaking, ecological alarm call that we are still rallying behind today.
At our event Smoke & Mirrors we brought together three incredible women to expose the PR tactics deployed by the pesticide industry against Rachel Carson in the 1960's and the corruption and corporate greenwashing that continues today. If you missed it do watch it here.
We hope you find this latest issue interesting. It reveals the increase in pesticide use globally, the links between pesticides and worldwide insect declines, pesticide residues in our food, corporate tactics to hide the links between a weed killer and Parkinson's disease, chemical pollution in our rivers, and joins the dots between agrochemicals and the fossil fuel industry.
Finally, we'd like to highlight the fact that we are partnering with Transform Trade as part of their annual Injustice Calendar. It features 24 simple ways to make the world a better place. Join forces with thousands of others to stand up for justice in a simple way every day until Christmas. It will always be free and will always take less than 5 minutes to complete.
Each day of advent you will receive an email, featuring a different charity and a quick action you can take to do some good this holiday season.
