John, there were devastating shootings this weekend at community celebrations in Gilroy, California and Brownsville in Brooklyn, New York.
On Saturday night, the Old Timers Day block party in Brownsville was wrapping up when at least two gunmen killed one person and wounded 11 others. Over the 56 years the block party has been running, it represented a time of peace for Brownsville neighbors.
Sunday night, news of an active shooter at the Gilroy Garlic Festival spread across social media. Three people were shot and killed, and at least 12 others were wounded at the end of another family-oriented community event.
Shootings just shouldn't happen at events like the Gilroy Garlic Festival and the Old Timers Day block party in Brownsville. We know they shouldn't happen anywhere.
