Four years ago, my world turned upside down:

A gunman with a military-grade assault weapon stormed my high school, shooting 34 people and killing 17 kids and educators.

In the wake of the tragedy, I was determined to do something about this injustice.

That's when I met Gail Schwartz -- the Aunt of 14-year-old Parkland shooting victim, Alex Schachter.

Although we were still in shock, it was clear to us that the inaction of our legislators is what enabled a killer to easily access a weapon capable of causing so much destruction.

Together, with other mourning family members from the Parkland and Pulse community, we funneled our grief into action.

We created a political committee to turn this tragedy into something positive to honor the loved ones that were stolen from us and prevent future tragedies from occurring.

Because the harsh reality is: We'll never end mass shootings if we don't rid our country of these weapons of war – and elect leaders who are willing to do it.
