John - There are nine counties in Montana that have no healthcare providers at all. This number is currently at risk of increasing. The biggest threat to our rural hospitals is slashing federal healthcare programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Since 2010 nearly 100 rural hospitals have closed nation-wide, and more are at risk. Fifty-two out of fifty-six counties in Montana are currently experiencing primary care shortages.
